Police Continue to Search for Woman Taken by Flood at Omal Falls

KAMPOT: On the evening of July 30 three campers at Omal Falls were swept away in their tents by flash flooding. Extensive recovery efforts have been underway finding one dead, one alive and one still missing. Kampot Police Commissioner Mao Chanmathurith told EAC News that his joint police force has been thoroughly searching the area since July 31, but has not yet been able to find the missing woman.

Commissioner Mao Chanmathurith said that he will continue to lead the operation to search for Phorn Srey Kouch, who went missing during a flash flood at the Omal Waterfall Campground. He said his forces would continue to search until she is found.

The Kampot Police Commissioner also confirmed that on July 29 around 2 pm, 43 Cambodian tourists from Phnom Penh and Takeo Province were camping along the banks of the waterfall. On July 30, around 4:30 am, days of rain compounded with another heavy rain caused the waterfall to surge and flood a nearby path where people had pitched their tents. The incident immediately took the life of 19-year-old Ken Srey Ratna, whose body was found and handed over to her family for a traditional ceremony.

Additionally two young men from Takeo Province were also injured in the incident.
